Seuel to ‘Waking to Mr Darcy’ This was a clean adorable story with Mary Bennet as the centerpiece I liked her character and the way she handled herself in the wake of her mother’s flitting about preparing for the double wedding of the two elder Bennet sisters What was a girl to do when she had two beautiful older sisters and two vivacious younger sisters and she was trapped in the middle? Her mother constantly berated her for not securing Mr Collins dumped on her with insults that she was not pretty like the older girls or lively like the younger girls After years of that comparison Mary’s self esteem and confidence were fairly low This was a uick read with 14 chapters plus an epilogue It followed ‘Waking to Mr Darcy’ which was 4 stars for me; however it could be read as a stand alone book There were references to the previous book but did not lean heavily toward it The author did a good job of filling us in on the major points I would suggest reading the first book It is the story of Darcy and Elizabeth and how their betrothal came about It was the most page time I’ve seen between ODC and there was a lot that happened to solidify their relationship This book used that affection to settle many problems and situations and Jane and Bingley were also sprinkled throughout the story Caroline was her usual jealous and controlling self Wickham made an appearance and left his usual slime trail However his story progressed to a strange end We don’t usually see that conseuence for him It was different There were several new characters introduced to our core group and I really liked them I especially adored Mr Nicholas Hammond His younger brother Fred and a school mate Whit had gotten into trouble and had to leave school early for the holidays They continued to get into trouble in Meryton but were good kids that just needed a bit of direction These characters moved the story along and their presence was very plausible as a catalyst for our main characters reaching their HEA This was a really cute story and I uite enjoyed it I highly recommend both books for a feel good JAFF experience The story ended at 88% on my device with an excerpt of ‘Discovering Mr Darcy’ the next book in the Dash of Darcy Collection It is not a continuation of this story but another ‘what if’ story for Darcy and Elizabeth with a little help from Lady Catherine 1st read 12 23 162nd read 3 4 19 3 5 19

Received as a gift from the author with no expectation of a review positive or otherwise45 rounded up to 5 starsMiss Mary Bennet front and center This is a well done variation where Elizabeth and Jane are engaged to Mr Darcy and Mr Bingley and wedding preparations are underway at Longbourn As this is a seuel to Waking to Mr Darcy A Pride and Prejudice Novella the regiment is in the area along with Mr Wickham who has NOT eloped with Lydia nor has he been exposed as a rake a gambler andor a debtor Mrs Bennet is displeased with Mary for not pursuing Mr Collins vigorously and doesn't believe her oldest un engaged daughter is pretty or personable enough to promote to other eligible gentlemen around Meryton She isn't subtle about pushing Kitty and Lydia toward potential suitors and being dismissive towards Mary Fortunately Mary has a number of people on her side particularly her father and older sisters who do their best to protect her from Mrs Bennet's disparagement but Mary dreads life at Longbourn once Lizzy and Jane marry and are no longer living at home She buys into her mother's belief that she is destined to be a spinster and so she makes plans to escape to London ostensibly to visit her aunt and uncle but really to seek work as a lady's companionMr Nicholas Hammond finds Mary uite pretty and enjoys conversing with her than any other young woman However because of the high costs associated with supporting his spendthrift father and brother he doesn't know when he might be comfortable enough financially to marry despite his successful management of Rosemoore the family estate When his brother Fred returns for Christmas early along with his eually mischief prone friend Whit having gotten themselves in trouble at school yet again Nicholas steels himself to deal with the scrapes the two will inevitably get intoFred and Whit are an interesting pair They're immature and have the usual youthful belief in their invincibility despite the negative conseuences that always follow their bad decisions usually wagers to win curricle or horse races They're not really bad sorts at heart and you can't help liking them Mary keeps being in the vicinity and adversely affected by their antics but she manages to get Fred doing some actual work for her Uncle Phillips to pay for replacement when his actions cause her gloves to be ruined Nicholas notes Fred's unusual industriousness as well as some interactions between him and Mary and comes to the conclusion that Fred is interested in her romantically He's miserably jealous but he also believes that Mary's positive influence could tame his young brother's wildness Meanwhile Whit observes that Nicholas and Mary are enad of each other He and Fred with the best of intentions but the worst of plans decide to help get the pair together in the short time left before Mary leaves for London The results of course are disastrousI really enjoyed the twists and turns of this plot and I love all the characterizations Nicholas is such a sweet sensible man and you can sense the mutual love between him and Fred despite their differences I've already commented about Fred and Whit who almost steal the book Poor Mary honestly doesn't believe she's pretty yet Nicholas Fred Whit and even Wickham find her very attractive Makes you want to smack Mrs B around the block a few times We see less of the Fordyce spouting bluestocking and find a sensitive insecure young lady who doesn't recognize her own worth Although Darcy and Bingley mostly remain in the background their contributions to the story match up to their characters nicely Wickham as always is Wickham; he has his hand in the mischief Whit and Fred stir up around Meryton and Rosemoore There are serious situations in spots but I'd say the story generally is light and warm Perfect tone and length for the holidays

This was Mary Bennet's story and leave it to Leenie Brown to make you adore the secondary characters Sweet romantic and chaste read that had its funny moments as well Particularly loved Darcy's dry wit It was bold too at least I thought so as she killed one of the characters in a Christmas themed story It was a character that I dear say will not be much missed though Heartily recommend this book

My Rating 45This was a delightful Christmas story about Mary Not only is Mrs Bennet so wrong in this one but Mr Bennet has finally assumed his true role As the book description tells us Mary is determined to leave Longbourn after her two older sisters get married Then we have the serious but determined Nicholas Hammond trying to bring true solvency to his estate after his spendthrift father leaves him with it Both Mary and Nicholas are good friends but neither feel they can either secure one's love or offer marriage Enter the devil may care younger brother Fred and his good friend Whit who have been sent down from school for participating in a curricle race and you have mischief afoot I really loved this Mary and her ability to come straight to the heart of a situation After being told for years she was not pretty by her mother she believed it There were so many touching scenes especially with Mr Bennet He finally came to appreciate her There are several twists to this story that I uite liked as well One involved Mr Collins I was hoping for a little detail there but that may be in the book 'Waking to Mr Darcy' that I have not yet read This novella is a seuel to it which I will soon read but I think this is enough of a stand alone story on it's own Another twist has to do with Mr Wickham that I was not expecting There is a lovely epilogue in this novella as well that leaves you smiling This was just a charming story that I highly recommend to all

Loved this story Mary and a new cast of characters made this story Mary is the lost sister in PP and this author let’s us see just who she really is The story takes place in Hertfordshire during the Christmas season with both Jane and Elizabeth’s pending wedding Mrs Bennet is her usual self to Mary and we learn that Mary admires a gentleman Excellent story

With Jane and Elizabeth nearly married Mrs Bennet turns her attentions to Kitty As obviously Mary has lost any chance of marriage when she didn't catch Mr CollinsBut Mary has friends on her side so can she find her happy endingLoved this story it was wonderful to read Mary's tale and I really liked the new characters that were introducedAn enjoyable re read
