Title Fated MemoriesAuthor Joan CarneyGenre Sci Fi Historical RomanceFormat EbookPages 343Rating 4Heat 2Thoughts Wow, this was really good I was pretty much hooked from the start Kitty, although a wallflower, is pretty mouthy That part didn t make much sense but if you take out the wallflower part and put insecure then it s perfect She cracked me up, especially once they ended up back in time Having taken self defense classes she ends up laying out a couple of men and shocking the crap out the ones that witnessed it I couldn t stop giggling about it This book left me with so many questions though There s the picture of Maggie s grandmother wearing a necklace that is found before they go back in time I won t give anything away but they did get to see when that picture was taken, and it really made me wonder how But other than that question the rest just deal with normal time travel questions ...

First of all, I should say that I m not the usual audience for a romance book I m of a fantasy scifi person However, I found myself absolutely hooked by the story and characters of this unique romance and time travel hybrid The main characters, Kitty, Maggie, and Simon, are all equally likable, and I was fascinated with where they would take me Once it flashed to the Civil War, there was no turning back, and I had to know what would happen There was a realism to the book that at times made me cringe, and at other times, had ...

I like historical fiction with traveling back in time elements To have a contrast and a comparison between the Civil War era and modern times couldn t have been an easy task to undertake for anyauthor but, I think Joan Carney did quite well At the first beginning of reading Fated Memories I saw the character Kitty as an emotional mess But, upon further reading getting into the meat of the story I saw her strength The story...

As a Civil War nut, this book caught my eye It had two elements that I totally enjoy time travel and the Civil War Of course, I recognized the few real figures that were used in the book and the battles that were referred to The book and the story itse...

Anything about time travel often fascinates me Especially when it involves a little bit of history That was the reason I decided to read this book In all honesty, I wanted this book to be longer I wanted details because it was about the past Who doesn t like reading and learning about the past I have to admit that the main heroine, Kitty, didn t fascinate me at first I didn t quite like her character But I totally liked Maggie And I remember thinking that if Maggie wasn t a character in the book, it would have been a dreadful read As I kept reading, I realized that Kitty s character was actually kind of bad ass And I loved that This is where I give the author points for character development I wanted so much to know how they got transported to the past and when the revelation came, I was pleased no, they didn t go through stones like Diana Gabaldon s characters I wish the author had focused on telling how the women coped with day 2 and 3 in the past, instead of jumping to two weeks of being there I m pretty sure it would have been agonizing to try and cope with the fact that they were in...

Adversity builds strength You just need to trust yourself enough to use it I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review Fated Memories is a beautiful story of two girls finding the love of their lives, friendship, and time travel I was a little nervous at first since I tend to have a hard time really getting into war stories However, Carney took a twist off the girls perspective in the hospital Simon, Kitty, and Maggie struggle to fit in as best as they can Between trying to prevent any butterfly effects and Kitty getting sent to the psych ward because of her potty mouth Simon goes to work in the Army and the girls busy themselves with the injured trying to adjust to 1861 medicine and not giving away to much modern day medical practices. The Characters where great I loved that Carney made Kitty a real bad ass In the beginning she was coming off very poor me and everyone take care of me and I thought oh boy this is going to be a long book But once she made up her mind, everyman knew not to mess with he...

What a delightful book Four and a half stars I enjoy time travel stories and they are made enjoyable when the historical period location is well rendered in this case, the Civil War period The author does an excellent job and I was completely immersed.Of course, I must admit to being taken in within the first couple of pages of the book when the main character buys a Chateau St Michelle wine one of my favorite brands although I prefer the Cab Sauv to the Reisling and also by the fact that she is 5 10 my height I know it sounds like I m talking all about me, but the real key here is that I was taken in I was making connections with the main character within the first couple of pages This is because the writing was smooth, natural and well done This is a story of three people who, without understanding how, are sent back in time to the Civil War era and are forced to survive while trying or hoping to eventually get home The main character, Kitty, has nursing experience in today s world , so you can imagine both how much she could help with the devastating injuries and illnesses that abounded during that period and also how appalled she was at the conditions.I really appreciated how much Kitty changed thro...

Kitty is having a bad time She has problems at work, a failed romance and her room mate s recent engagement means she has to look for somewhere else to live She goes to stay with her cousin, Maggie, who has a new boyfriend, Simon He has memories of a past life as a soldier in the Civil War and he and Maggie both share an interest in the history of that period After a night out, Simon, Maggie and Kitty wake up in a field in Pennsylvania Believing at first they have wandered into a Civil War re enactment, they are shocked when they discover the year is, in fact, 1861 Maggie and Kitty begin working in the hospital, while Simon enlists as a Union soldier Kitty is outspoken, impulsive and fiercely loyal With the threat of the insane asylum ever present, she has to learn to keep her opinions to herself Although she and Maggie do their best to improve sanitation on the wards, Kitty has to observe archaic medical practices, unable to intervene There is great attention to detail here and the author has obviously carried out extensive research giving detailed descriptions of the clothes, food and medical practices of the period This story is not a romantic portrayal...

If there s one thing Kitty, Maggie, and Simon won t be denied, it s the ability to use the phrase Blast from the past literally Fated Memories by Joan Carney is a time travel romance, set during America s Civil War Simply written and wonderfully narrated, it is the characters Kitty and Maggie who steer an instantly engaging plot The descriptions are extraordinary It was early September, and Kitty couldn t wait for this miserable Indian summer to end The foul odor of garbage filled the hot, sticky days, and the only life in the muggy night air came from the abundance of biting insects that drove everyone mad I liked that Maggie was a woman aged in her thirties, and not the usual wonder teen who dazzles with remarkable maturity although readers who appreciate a younger heroine will find enough angst to fit the bill It s tough to make time travel believable, but Carney does a good job of at least making it satisfying Where Fated M...

This book has a little bit of something for every romance reader time travel, historical and contemporary I wasn t too sure about Kitty at first, I wanted her to stand up and fight for herself and then I realised I sounded just like her mother But as the story continues and she grows, I started to like her and .I loved the detail in the book, the practicality, what to wear, eat and do when you re suddenly dropped into another era I m not a fan of histor...
