About this book Following in her absentee father s footsteps in a law enforcement career, U.S Marshal Mercy Brennan has just recovered from being shot in the line of duty And, unbeknownst to her, her father s recent reappearance in her life has put her in the sights of St Louis s most powerful gang Her boss assigns Deputy U.S Marshal Mark St Laurent Mercy s ex boyfriend to get her out of town until her safety can be guarantee Unaware of the extent her boss and Mark have been keeping her in the dark, it isn t until a freak ice storm strands them at a remote location and out of contact with the district office that the full severity of their situation becomes clear As the storm worsens, the forces of nature combine with a deadly enemy closing in to put their lives at imminent risk Can they survive long enough for help to arrive if help is even coming at all Series Book 1 in the Defenders of Justice series Spiritual Content Prayers Witnessing to Mercy Talks about God, Jesus, God s will, faiths, believing, prayers, love H s are capital when referring to God Mark believes Tally is a new believer Mercy doesn t believe God exists since He didn t answer childhood prayers Spoiler view spoiler but halfway she prayers a couple times and thinks she s losing it for talking to a nonexistent being , in the last chapter she says she believes hide spoiler

This book was very interesting Mercy Brennan, the MC, captured my interest at the beginning She was a very complex character Mark St Laurent, the other MC, fell a little short in my opinion He was very sweet, but didn t have the same complexity that Mercy had, and I missed that Overall, the characters were interesting, but I never truly connected with them I personally love character driven stories, so this was a little disappointing for me in that regard The storyline was well thought out, and very fast paced I read this in about 24 hours There were some parts that were predictable, and others that weren t very realistic view spoiler For example, a character is left in sub freezing temperatures in a blizzard without clothes on for several hours But then, when he is finally rescued, he s right back to normal within minutes, seemingly There would be far severe repercussions than just needing to warm up for a few minutes Also, a character is shot in the arm, and only applies a loose bandage, but then is able to function almost normally He would have lost a large amount of blood and been incapacitated, but that is not shown here Those are just two example of some of the things I found unrealistic hide spoiler

This novel covers the parallel journeys of the protagonist the journey to bring cartel members to justice and the journey to find God and His will for her life The author does a great job in intertwining the two, and keeping the reader involved Just when I thought we were approaching the end, another crisis point was reached And although I wondered at first how the title came about, by the time I d turned the last page of the novel I felt as though I needed a jacket Well done.

RATING 3 STARS I received an ARC from the PUBLISHER via NETGALLEY Review Not on Blog This is my first novel by Nancy Mehl, and I am undecided if I will read I found the characters were okay and the story line was predictable This book is also tagged as a Christian book, and there are few mentions of God, but doesn t really have much to do wth the story or novel.

I wanted to like this book, and it had potential But to be honest, there were too many unrealistic parts for me to appreciate it.

I like suspense, and since I ve read one other by this author, I was interested to see how this one would be Sadly, it fell short for me Lots of trite expression, predictable scenes, and characters that I couldn t sympathize with This is a clean book, with romance that was quite minimal Some good spiritual content, with mentions of conversions and a possible salvation toward the end although it wasn t clear. In the middle I was a little interested, especially with the one main snow scene, but everything seemed so contrived I wished I could have enjoyed this

Previous books by Nancy Mehl have focused on Mennonite or Amish communities interacting amongst those in secular communities and often laced with a strong element of suspense In Fatal Frost Mehl steps firmily into the suspense genre aligning her characters in the U.S.Marshal camp and with the world of protection, gang bashers, and drug cartels.I say this is a good fit for Mehl s talents as she takes the reader into the corruption that drugs, murder, and ill gained money place characters As the title indicates, the death defying chill of a severe winter storm and the deadly pursuit of evil men takes the reader into the mind, actions, and horrors of a spine chilling suspense read Frosty indeed Character development is excellent and reveals weaknesses and strengths of each of the major players Corruption in high places as well as low life gang members run a strong thread of fearful encounters throughout the book There is, however, a promise of hope as characters share their Christian faith. As the first book in a series of Defenders of Justice, Fatal Frost has given me a sure fire appetite for additional defenders of justice stories Thanks Nancy Mehl for a good, Christian read.I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review of my honest opinions and received no compensation to review.

I ve kept seeing the books by Nancy Mehl appear in my book recommendations on Goodreads, but until this book, I d never read anything of hers I knew going in to expect a romantic suspense book, but beyond that, I didn t know what to expect I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised This book started off fast and kept going The action alone kept me interested I did find that the characters didn t seem to be quite as well developed as I m used to, but that could be that this is the first in a series I don t know if these characters will make appearances in the rest of the series or not.Overall, this was a fast and enjoyable read.I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher as Bethany House s blogging program I was asked only to give my honest opinion about the book My thoughts and opinions are my own.Recommended to fans of Lisa Harris, Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, romantic suspenseRating 4 stars

Nancy Mehl like you ve never read her before And I m lovin it I ve always enjoyed the way this author spins a suspenseful tale but until Fatal Frost all those mysteries have involved quaint Old Order Mennonite towns and while I loved that aspect of series like Harmony, Road to Kingdom and Finding Sanctuary, I am over the moon about this new, hard hitting law enforcement centred series.Fatal Frost just the title sends a shiver up your spine, doesn t it And brrr, curl up in front of a fire with a hot drink because the majority of this story takes place in the middle of a horrendous winter storm and Mehl s descriptive prose makes you feel like you re right there And be prepared for sinister chaos These villains are e v i l and sneaky and ruthless I turned pages with breathless anticipation and read the last hundred in one gluttonous gulp Great character dynamics and detailed backstory bring depth to both hero and heroine Mercy is a walking contradiction Even her name doesn t quite match her tough, stoic persona She s built a wall around her heart and keeps everyone except childhood friend, Tally, at a distance She doesn t do relationships not even with a pet which is why her relationship with Mark came to a crashing halt He said I love you and she couldn t say it back But she thought it and that was enough to send her running scared Now they re together again facing danger at every turn And neither of them have forgotten the intense emotions of their past Seriously delicious and oh so torturous romance As taut and tense as the relentless suspense An enthralling start to the Defenders of Justice series Can t wait to read Book has been provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group and Graf Martin Communications, Inc.

It s hard to believe that in my four and a half years of reviewing books I have only read one other book by Nancy Mehl the first book in her Road to Kingdom series which I loved and have been wanting to read of her books, but other books just kept taking priority But when I heard about this new series, I knew I had to read it And I am beyond thrilled to say that I loved this book from beginning to end It did have a bit of a different feel to it than other romantic suspense books I ve read but I loved that about it I also loved that, while there was a romance it didn t seem at least to me anyway that it was the major focus of the book, which I found to be totally awesome and refreshing and a nice change of pace The majority of the plot focused on the mystery and suspense and let me just say that with as many suspense books as I have read it is very difficult to surprise me but this book threw numerous curveballs at me that I totally didn t see coming This book was just so good, I could see it playing out in my mind s eye like a TV show or movie I really liked that this story dropped us right into the action and then let us get to know the characters through their thoughts as well as their actions as the story progressed I don t want to risk giving anything away so I will just say that I loved every minute of this book and hated to see it end I cannot wait for the next book in the series I highly recommend Fatal Frost to all fans of Christian romantic suspense I received this book for free from Bethany House publishers No review required The above is my honest opinion, all thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
