I had high expectations for this series I noticed a lot of buzz about it on comic book websites, and the premise sounded interesting What if aliens bombarded, invaded, and occupied Earth for 10 yearsand then suddenly just left Where would humans go from there How would we rebuild That s pretty much the tagline of the book and the description on the back cover But you won t find any of those questions addressed in this story My biggest complaint with this book is that it barely tells a I had high expectations for this series I noticed a lot of buzz about it on comic book websites, and the premise sounded interesting What if aliens bombarded, invaded, and occupied Earth for 10 yearsand then suddenly just left Where would humans go from there How would we rebuild That s pretty much the tagline of the book and the description on the back cover But you won t find any of those questions addressed in this story My biggest complaint with this book is that it barely tells a story at all Instead, it amounts to littlethan a 7 issue trailer advertisement for another RESURRECTION series to be released later this year I m not sure if that was intentional or the result of a cancellation then UN cancellation, but either way it s not a smart method for telling a coherent story Thank god this trade paperback was only 6 or I would have been pissed But even at 6, I still don t think it s worth the price At nearly 200 pages, I would fully expect some kind of plot development, but very little ever occurs In the entire 7 issues we never learn how the aliens bugs as the story refers to them invaded, why they came, what happened while they were here, etc I would let it slide if they were trying to built mystery or suspense about the invasion, but instead it just comes off as unpolished I understand that introductory chapters are usually just expository, but the writer can t even seem to manage that As much as the characters in this book trek across the country, we never get a lay of the land that sets a larger scene for what the hell is going on or why we should care.I m not sure which is worse the lack of plot or the almost nonexistent characterization As far as I can tell, the most central characters in this book are White Lady, Black Guy, Political Guy, Science Guy, Military Guy, and CIA Lady And then suddenly White Lady and Black Guy are best friends, moments after they meet And Political Guy and Black Guy are lifelong enemies And Military Guy wants to kill Scientist Guy That s the extent of what we get Again, if the writer were using these omitted facts as a way to build suspense, that would be one thing But all the lack of detail just makes the story nebulous and the characters difficult to care about Although RESURRECTION offers a novel premise, what it actually delivers is nothing new This book borrows heavily from post apocalyptic stories like Y The Last Man and the television show Jericho The only difference is that those tales actually got it right And considering that this book can t even manage to set up an interesting story over a 7 issue spread, there s no way that I ll be checking out the new series when it arrives I suggest you take a pass as well

This wasn t exactly what I was expecting, thinking it wasakin to horror than scifi, but being an alien rights enthusiast heh , it was easy for me to hop on board with the invasion or after invasion, in this case The art wasn t anything worth mentioning, but the story kept me interested and entertained It had some decent dialog and even a few laughs If you read comics for art, this won t do it for you If you re looking for horror, you won t find it here But as a cool little post ap This wasn t exactly what I was expecting, thinking it wasakin to horror than scifi, but being an alien rights enthusiast heh , it was easy for me to hop on board with the invasion or after invasion, in this case The art wasn t anything worth mentioning, but the story kept me interested and entertained It had some decent dialog and even a few laughs If you read comics for art, this won t do it for you If you re looking for horror, you won t find it here But as a cool little post apocalyptic alien invasion story, it ain t half bad I m considering picking up the next book

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here Earth has been invaded by aliens who occupied the planet for 10 years The series explores what happens after the aliens leave The president fights with the military for control of the US government Opportunists try to loot left behind alien tech People panic and shoot each other That kinda stuff. This was interesting, but it didn t really grab me The book is all set up It s meet the characters, get to know the situations Now, the first issue of Volume 2 came out a couple weeks ago and was Earth has been invaded by aliens who occupied the planet for 10 years The series explores what happens after the aliens leave The president fights with the military for control of the US government Opportunists try to loot left behind alien tech People panic and shoot each other That kinda stuff. This was interesting, but it didn t really grab me The book is all set up It s meet the characters, get to know the situations Now, the first issue of Volume 2 came out a couple weeks ago and was a vast improvement All the groundwork has been laid Now that that s done, we re getting to the freaky conspiracy shit Hopefully that ll rock

3 stars Described as The Walking Dead for aliens, this has a great premise but the execution is lacking Using flashbacks is guaranteed to make the reader curious and engrossed in the story, but Resurrection over uses this tool and the result is a confusing mess of story lines and characters that are apparently all intertwined I m just not sure that I care that much about what happens to any of them The art is not fantastic either, with faces being so lacking in detail that it is hard to tell 3 stars Described as The Walking Dead for aliens, this has a great premise but the execution is lacking Using flashbacks is guaranteed to make the reader curious and engrossed in the story, but Resurrection over uses this tool and the result is a confusing mess of story lines and characters that are apparently all intertwined I m just not sure that I care that much about what happens to any of them The art is not fantastic either, with faces being so lacking in detail that it is hard to tell a few characters apart Still, the price is ridiculously cheap, and the plot may well improve in later volumes But this is definitely not of the same calibre as the brilliant Walking Dead

Marc Guggenheim, creator of Eli Stone and the writer for the forthcoming Green Lantern feature film, crafts an intelligent story that attempts to answer the question of what happens after the alien invaders leave Though at times, artists Dumeer and Dabs hinder the excellent script with less then stellar art, Guggenheim manages to weave an intriguing tale that hints at government conspiracies, the aliens, and the fate of humanity At 6 for 184 pages, this collection should entice even the most Marc Guggenheim, creator of Eli Stone and the writer for the forthcoming Green Lantern feature film, crafts an intelligent story that attempts to answer the question of what happens after the alien invaders leave Though at times, artists Dumeer and Dabs hinder the excellent script with less then stellar art, Guggenheim manages to weave an intriguing tale that hints at government conspiracies, the aliens, and the fate of humanity At 6 for 184 pages, this collection should entice even the most frugal of sf fan

This is such a cool graphic novel There is so much going on in it Basically it details the aftermath of an alien invasion and explores the lives of the humans the aliens left behind Great insight into the human experience in times of crisis And I loved the artwork Brian K Vaughan described it as, Worth your attention and I would wholeheartedly agree.

Another entry in the crowded post apocalyptic field this time humanity emerges from the rubble after a decade of alien occupation It might distinguish itself from the crowd better were the artconsistent at times I found it tricky keeping clear which character was who and where they were standing.

  8. says:

It s a cross between The Walking Dead , the TV show Jericho , and something with buggy aliens There has been an alien invasion with everything destroyed The story starts just as the aliens have left This is what the human survivors do Just in the way of other post apocalyptic stories, society doesn t come back to normal very well.

If I was rating this based on price, I d probably give it four stars 6 dollars is an insanely good deal for the amount of material you get here and there are flashes of interesting things happening in Resurrection certainly the premise is dynamite but that good stuff is lost in a haze of vague characterization and muddy art.

  10. says:

Interesting take on the alien invasion mythos as this one takes place after the aliens abandon Planet Earth Storyline and character are serviceable while the artwork is fairly rote and generic.
