    As I was reading the early chapters, I thought I would give this book 4 stars This is the first book I ve read by Ms Fulford, so I had definitely checked the Goodreads rating Often I would pass on a book rated 3.4 or so, but I pressed on because I m always looking for new to me authors, and there are several trusted favorites whose ratings are lower than what I would give them Anyway, I clearly liked the dramatic opening I liked the main characters I love stories set in Brussels on the eve of Waterloo I also liked that the males acted with period appropriate courtesy toward gentlewomen, including the careful use of curse and epithet free language So what happened I found the dialog too stiff There is no humor in the exchanges or anywhere in the characters personalities This is a tricky critique because sometimes authors who try to include humor ...
