This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers To view it, click here I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway However, the opinions expressed are my own. There were a lot of interesting elements to this story However, there were a lot of elements that have been done in other science fiction works robot versus man, searching for a new home in the stars, strict militarian schools as a last hope for mankind s survival I cannot say I found a lot of new insights to these issues. This book asked many questions but didn t answer them well One of the main characters is I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway However, the opinions expressed are my own. There were a lot of interesting elements to this story However, there were a lot of elements that have been done in other science fiction works robot versus man, searching for a new home in the stars, strict militarian schools as a last hope for mankind s survival I cannot say I found a lot of new insights to these issues. This book asked many questions but didn t answer them well One of the main characters is religious, but when things go bad, she questions her faith Does this ever get restored Is there a message about faith underlying the plot This is never directly addressed While I do not expect religious beliefs pushed onto the reader, taking a stand one way or another is there a God or isn t there was necessary for me for closure with the characters The characters argued this point a lot, but I never got a lasting impression one way or the other about it Just a hint of something divine or proof against it would have truly enhanced the message of the story Why spend so much time arguing the point if you re not going to give it a resolution Another thing was that, while the author does have a lyrical language he uses in describing things, many elements significant to the plot of the story were poorly described For instance, the first alien they encounter was rather briefly described as vaguely being human but deformed I could not picture what these people looked like This is our first alient encounter Describe the crap out of these people What color is the sky how many moons are there do the aliens met at the end have different skin tones does the bear have different features than a bear from Earth eye structure, ear structure, etc what do the weapons used by aliens, robots, and humans look like There was so much that I could not picture I would have likeddetails The writing is good However, the world needed to be expanded greatly There is little to no backstory It seems like everything else is described as being pretty much like Earth I think the author could have really expanded on the new world If there is a sequel, I would read it Again, the author is a talented writer, but he needs to expand and describe his imaginationAnd the end of the book was lacking some sort of big bang some kind of greater message to society I was not left with any lasting impressions I felt things just kind of fizzled to a close While the aliens were left with hope, what about the characters we ve gotten to know in these pages What do the aliens represent to them and their faith

Just finished the GoodReads copy I won, I immediately got my IPad out to look for a sequel Disappointed, I ll just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait Needless to say I enjoyed the story Writing needs some minor work, and I agree with previous GoodReads winner that the strong religious under pinning was a bit over done But the pace was good and the story engaging Wish there was , the premise is wide open forbooks set in this world time line, definitely needs a sequel Thanks Just finished the GoodReads copy I won, I immediately got my IPad out to look for a sequel Disappointed, I ll just have to keep my fingers crossed and wait Needless to say I enjoyed the story Writing needs some minor work, and I agree with previous GoodReads winner that the strong religious under pinning was a bit over done But the pace was good and the story engaging Wish there was , the premise is wide open forbooks set in this world time line, definitely needs a sequel Thanks to the author for my free copy and an enjoyable read Please write

An OK read, though I think it s highly unrealistic that the planet they land on is pretty much exactly like Earth view spoiler I was hoping there would be an explanation for this at some point, but there wasn t as far as I could tell hide spoiler I m not a big fan of the writing style either, it seemed a bit overly dramatic at times, and I must admit I did do a few eye rolls All in all an OK story An OK read, though I think it s highly unrealistic that the planet they land on is pretty much exactly like Earth view spoiler I was hoping there would be an explanation for this at some point, but there wasn t as far as I could tell hide spoiler I m not a big fan of the writing style either, it seemed a bit overly dramatic at times, and I must admit I did do a few eye rolls All in all an OK story

Think Adam and Eve as they wake up out of their starship and find their new surroundings a lot less comfortable than Eden A LOT less comfortable In fact, for teenagers Josh and Leah, the last two humans alive, their mission of keeping the human race alive on a new planet is so much harder than just dealing with teenage hormones they ve got to deal with dwindling supplies, a harsh environment, and you know the peaceful world that they re supposed to land on and happily rebuild society Well, i Think Adam and Eve as they wake up out of their starship and find their new surroundings a lot less comfortable than Eden A LOT less comfortable In fact, for teenagers Josh and Leah, the last two humans alive, their mission of keeping the human race alive on a new planet is so much harder than just dealing with teenage hormones they ve got to deal with dwindling supplies, a harsh environment, and you know the peaceful world that they re supposed to land on and happily rebuild society Well, it would help if there wasn t already an intelligent species there trying to kill them.A Cold Black Wave has action and adventure, descriptive science, and vivid scenes I was definitely doing some fast kindle page swiping towards the latter half of the book I felt like there were two parts to this book The first part most of the first half was okay I liked the descriptions and how the science was spelled out, particularly when the free floating shuttle scene I wasn t too fond of the characters Josh seemed like a jerk and Leah was very meh The second part a little before midway was much better We get to learnabout Josh and Leah, and the characterization was much better once we got to Leah s viewpoint as she sees the new world. The book is exciting, particularly the battle scenes I can easily see this on the big screen as a summer movie as the two love interests overcome their early dislike as they fight to survive What I didn t like was the religious undertone throughout the book I almost stopped reading at the start because of it It s not that I dislike religious aspects I ve been in an angel novel kick lately but this one caught me off guard since I wasn t expecting it or the fact that there sdiscussion of faith than IN the novels starring angels that I just finished reading It s kinda like Battlestar Gallactica in the later seasons where it got religious Good story, but a definite uncomfortable huh moment Just putting that out there so no one else gets surprised by that. The other two things I didn t like the sudden ending and the need for another editing run Luckily, there s a book two coming out since I would very loosely call this standalone too many unanswered questions and fates left unknown As for the editing, there were a significant number of errors and awkward phrases yep, pot calling kettle black, eh that took me out of the story, but they re few enough that I bet oneediting pass should get them.Overall, it was an enjoyable story, particularly the latter half where the characterization picks up and the characters becomelikable I m giving it a 4 out of 5 Originally posted on my blog I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review

I received this through Goodreads First Reads The opinions are my own and I am uncompensated for them.First the cons It needs serious editing for comma usage and sentence structure. The integration between different aspects science vs religion, past vs present, etc is choppy and artificial The almost ending is very poorly explained I know it s still supposed to be a mystery, but really it s just confusing. The very end is quite abrupt and doesn t tie up the story even enough for the first boo I received this through Goodreads First Reads The opinions are my own and I am uncompensated for them.First the cons It needs serious editing for comma usage and sentence structure. The integration between different aspects science vs religion, past vs present, etc is choppy and artificial The almost ending is very poorly explained I know it s still supposed to be a mystery, but really it s just confusing. The very end is quite abrupt and doesn t tie up the story even enough for the first book in a series Even another chapter or a fewpages would have helped, depending what was on those pagesPros The concept is interesting, and the plot is reasonably believable. The characters are a bit flat but have definite potential. The author managed a fairly good balance between explain future science and who knows cares how it works, just tell the story I do want to know what happens next hint, hint

With it being a short book it hit the ground running with action and it kept up with a good pace of it all the way through I ended up enjoying the charactersandover time The author has created a great world for this to become a series, plentyto add to in the timeline before and after the events in the book take place The books ends abruptly, while it is on a good note in my opinion, it leaves you with many questions. On its own it is a great book and would recommend it for su With it being a short book it hit the ground running with action and it kept up with a good pace of it all the way through I ended up enjoying the charactersandover time The author has created a great world for this to become a series, plentyto add to in the timeline before and after the events in the book take place The books ends abruptly, while it is on a good note in my opinion, it leaves you with many questions. On its own it is a great book and would recommend it for sure, but I do hope there isto come

I really enjoyed this book I had read other reviews before starting and was concerned about the ending However, I think there are times when an author does not need to spell out every detail for you He guided us in a direction and left the final details up to our imagination The story itself had a great pace also.
