Not bad for a freebie Well, okay, better than not bad.I did not care for the slight intrusions of secondary character POVs coming into playing but that s just me because it tends to throw me out of the story, particularly if it s a romance between 2 characters I would prefer that the author show me that the main characters are either seeing or missing crucial details, but don t spoil the side mystery by having scenes with the villains.I m not a historical genre book buff so I can t speak to Not bad for a freebie Well, okay, better than not bad.I did not care for the slight intrusions of secondary character POVs coming into playing but that s just me because it tends to throw me out of the story, particularly if it s a romance between 2 characters I would prefer that the author show me that the main characters are either seeing or missing crucial details, but don t spoil the side mystery by having scenes with the villains.I m not a historical genre book buff so I can t speak to the accuracy of the historic details, but nothing jarred me as being totally off base.A nice, light regency

As the fourth son with no hopes of inheriting, Alex Rawlings went for a career in the military, but a series of accidents bumps off his father and three older brothers Now Marquis of Coverstone, Alex married his eldest brother s fianc Charlotte she d been engaged to the heir since she was a child , was a drunken boor on his wedding night, left his wife in his mother s care and headed back to the peninsula and his regiment.FF three years, three years of poor Charlotte having to listen to Alex As the fourth son with no hopes of inheriting, Alex Rawlings went for a career in the military, but a series of accidents bumps off his father and three older brothers Now Marquis of Coverstone, Alex married his eldest brother s fianc Charlotte she d been engaged to the heir since she was a child , was a drunken boor on his wedding night, left his wife in his mother s care and headed back to the peninsula and his regiment.FF three years, three years of poor Charlotte having to listen to Alex s mother harping on about the lack of an heir, and it s all her fault it isn t Alex has been seriously wounded and returns home hoping to make a go of his marriage, but events and big misunderstandings keep getting in the way of true love Regencies are a dime a dozen these days, and IMHO have become rather same old same old with a stubborn independent Miss and a wounded, boorish jerk of a rake just begging for the right woman to reform him The premise of this one with the H h already married was a refreshing change, and at the core this is a fairly good story, but it is also a book in dire need of an editor Mores instead ofs, err instead of ere, reigned instead of reined, it s instead of its, missing apostrophes, commas where there should not be commas and no commas where they should have been I also found the descriptions overdone and much too heavy handed I got it the first time that Alex was built like a man of steel and Charlotte was beauty personified I don t need to be clubbed over the head with it over and over and over againGarbed in sleek charcoal gray the perfectly tailored suit clung to his lean, hulking frame in a sensually dangerous manner The black vest and cravat offset his raven hair and contrasted beautifully with his vivid eyes Toned sinew shifted in a primal display beneath the layers of fabric and despite herself despite all the hurt and anger Charley knew the sudden urge to tear the layers from his body and smooth her palms along the equally thick layers of muscle.Sex in the carriage warning for Karla and Tammy DIn the end, this is a good but not great story, but not one I would recommend to others until it has been through a rigorous treatment from a good editor I obtained this as a freebie, but I d have been mightily ticked off if I d paid the 2.99 list price

hmm. this was a so so story not that it meant bad or not good, but the point of the whole story isheavy to the some revenge and the caos that happened as the result from that revenge the main character itself, having not much angst or heartbroken romance that you want to kick the hero s ass nor do you want to stranggled the heroine s neck for being a doormat i dont hv that urge all that happened just so so.The Hero was a childhood friend w the heroine, the Hero was the 4th child of hmm. this was a so so story not that it meant bad or not good, but the point of the whole story isheavy to the some revenge and the caos that happened as the result from that revenge the main character itself, having not much angst or heartbroken romance that you want to kick the hero s ass nor do you want to stranggled the heroine s neck for being a doormat i dont hv that urge all that happened just so so.The Hero was a childhood friend w the heroine, the Hero was the 4th child of the marquise, and the heroine was his older brother s fiancee since she was 3 but then the H s 3 older brothers was death from various accident, it makes the heroine whose already inlove w the hero since she was. 3, having no problem at all and embraced it, but not so much for the H, he was depressed by sudden title exchange to his shoulder, while all he wants was just having his career in military where he was joined since 17 the marriage happened, at their wedding night he insulted her and gone for 3 years until he was shot and have a forsee of an angel of in his dream in the image of her wife he got home, and wants to play husband and wife and he suddenly felt really love her altough he also said that he s already attracted to her when she was 17 the heroine didnt accept him in a heart beat, like in the 5th beat, so it was like a day for 3 years the heroine living w his mother, and getting her insult everyday by his mother for not conceived any heir for his son, the mother believed all it takes was just 1night on her wedding night for her to supposedly to be pregnant, but she s not later we knw that the H was too drunk to get his pee pee on, ofc, he fall flat to his face after he yell at her first and vow that he hope that she was pregnant right away for his to not need to see her again.forever but we knw, that cant happen.when he got home for the first 3 years, the heroine flee to her mother s house bcoz apparantly having heard her mother in law saying that she was barren and useless in front of the H was way too much, oh the drama, while she can stand all these long for 3 years, she cant stand for another minutes of insult , on her way, her carriage got hi jacked and she was kidnapped, the H and his cousin who become the heroine s best friend in all those years come and recue her after that, the hanky panky was begun and we got HEA

An okay story. It was one of those romances where there is a lot of misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions If they would just talk and listen to each other things could resolve faster, but then we wouldn t have a story The mystery of who was sabotaging him was interesting though I had a feeling who it was, but was still slightly surprised with the outcome. It also had a few sex scenes in it that I wish weren t there.Overall, an okay little romance.

I m not going to repeat what s already been but I will send out a few thoughts.Sigh.Perhaps I ve read far too many historical romances over the years and like the rakish H s I ve become disillusioned and jaded looking for that something different.I could not bear it when the h was left to the biting and bitter tongue of an abusive mother in law for three long years no less Why not have done something different with her like giving her a back bone and getting her the hell out of there That s be I m not going to repeat what s already been but I will send out a few thoughts.Sigh.Perhaps I ve read far too many historical romances over the years and like the rakish H s I ve become disillusioned and jaded looking for that something different.I could not bear it when the h was left to the biting and bitter tongue of an abusive mother in law for three long years no less Why not have done something different with her like giving her a back bone and getting her the hell out of there That s been done before Charley is the long suffering wife left behind while her husband trots off to war Reasonably quickly I m forced to skim through the story because predictability is established early on Three years later Alex returns amidst rumours of murder and infidelity and a son he never knew existed Okay stop right there Adding to the lack of back bone another pet peeve is cheating and on an equal footing is the introduction of an illegitimate child into the mix on top of everything else the h has had to endure Charley was just far too nice and in very real danger of convincing this reader that nice came too uncomfortably close to doormat Like all jaded H s, I m still looking for that something different It s not here In need of proofreading

I really liked this one It was romantic, yet quite a bit suspenseful Both of the main characters were stubborn and wary, but had enough redeeming characteristics to still be likable.Alec is a soldier returning home to his wife Charley after three years at war They were forced into marriage, yet they are each in love with the other except neither one of them has told the other They are both distrustful, and left wondering if the other has been unfaithful I enjoyed them finding the path bac I really liked this one It was romantic, yet quite a bit suspenseful Both of the main characters were stubborn and wary, but had enough redeeming characteristics to still be likable.Alec is a soldier returning home to his wife Charley after three years at war They were forced into marriage, yet they are each in love with the other except neither one of them has told the other They are both distrustful, and left wondering if the other has been unfaithful I enjoyed them finding the path back to each other, though there were obstacles along the way, they didn t make me constantly roll my eyes.I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the book a lot It all came together in the end and the epilogue was very sweet.I am still left with some unanswered questions though 1 Was there some sort of foul play involved in the death of Alec s brothers Their deaths seemed suspicious to me 2 Jack s parentage and the death disappearance of Bernadette never really got fully explained I would have liked to seeresolution there
